What is Viscosity ?
Viscosity is the resistance of a fluid to flowing.
Most people have heard the analogy of swimming in treacle
used in order to imply that something is difficult.
This seemingly ridiculous statement can go a long way to helping us grasp the concept of viscosity.
It would clearly be a lot harder to swim in treacle than water as just moving through it is more difficult and would require more force.
If we were to pour water and treacle onto an inclined kitchen tray the water would flow down the tray quicker that the treacle, because the treacle is more viscous.
