Some HSI Terminology
Lubber Line
The current heading is read off underneath the lubber line
CDI
Course Deviation Indicator (CDI) Indicates the number of degrees (radially) off track, from a selected radial.
Omni Bearing Selector
The Omni Bearing Selector (OBS) knob rotates the yellow arrow. The head of the yellow arrow points to the selected radial.
Glideslope Indicator
If used in conjunction with an ILS ground transmitter, indicates position relative to the glideslope.
Heading Flag
The heading flag indicate that the heading may not be reliable and the instrument is being synchronised, either manually by the pilot or automatically by the Flux Gate.
Nav Flag
The nav flag appears if the signal received by the NAV receiver is unusable or not present.
Heading Selector
The heading (HDG) knob moves the small orange rectangle over a selected heading, used as a pilots aide memoir.
