Drag

What is Drag ?

Drag is that part of a force which is produced when a fluid (like air) moves over a surface and acts in line with the airflow relative to the surface.

Calculating Drag Forces

Just an idea, but we if calculate blade element drag, integrate for the blade giving blade torque, multiply by RPM should give us rotor profile power !

The Drag Formula

We can calculate the lift force by using the following equation
D=CD½ ρ V2 S
where
D
is Lift Force. [N]
CD
is Coefficient of Lift. [dimensionless]
½
is the constant number a half. [dimensionless]
ρ
air density. [kg m-3]
V2
is the relative velocity of the air squared. [m2 s-2]
S
is the surface area of the object the air is travelling over.[m2]

The ½ρV2 term is also known as dynamic pressure.
