Dennis Kenyon Jr Scholarship

The Dennis Kenyon Junior helicopter scholarship is in memory of Dennis Kenyon Junior who was sadly lost in March 2000. He started his flying aged 14 and was the youngest pilot to qualify for training as a helicopter instructor at age 18. He was also a qualified fixed wing pilot.

A fully funded JAA PPL(H) is awarded each year to a British National aged between 18 and 23. No formal educational qualifications are required, but candidates holding GCSEs or higher qualifications will normally have an advantage. Applicants are required to believe themselves capable of passing a CAA 'Class One' medical, and those short-listed for a final 'aptitude test' will need to be in possession of the medical certificate. Only British Nationals are eligible for the scholarship.

Applicants should submit an essay of approximately 300 words outlining their career path to date, their interests and hobbies and say why they believe they should be awarded the scholarship. In previous years, six candidates were selected for personal interview and two are then chosen for an aptitude test. The Scholarship committee meet at Shoreham Airport with interviews normally taking place in the autumn of each year.

Previous winners have been Zoe Spain of Ascot, Hannah Nobbs of Malden and Georgie Dixon of Oundle.

Flying training normally takes place at Shoreham Airport, with the specialist display and instructor pilot, Dennis Kenyon. The successful candidate is responsible for his/her own accommodation and subsistence costs during training.
